Our Credentials

Surbiton Glass is a thriving, London-based business with a much envied reputation for specialist facilities and a high level of customer care and after sales support.

Why choose us?

As a consumer you have perhaps three main choices from which to source your glazing products. From a large national company, from a large national DIY  / builders merchant or a local company.

The first is a fine choice but inevitably the customer must pick up the extra costs of running a large sales and administrative staff, their buying power is more than offset by their increased costs.

Secondly you have the ease, convenience and low cost of a builders merchant. The disadvantage here is that the products will almost certainly be inferior in quality and you will probably need to employ a third party for installation and beyond the basic consumer protection there are no guarantees.

That leaves us and other local companies. Almost certainly all local companies are in the business of trying harder, not competing on price but on service and a personal approach. Where we believe we have the edge is that not only are we too trying harder but we have sophisticated technical expertise and manufacture our own products. Many local companies outsource this work (some of it to us!) We have been in business for more than 50 years, we are here for the long haul and will always be accountable for our work long into the future. Our company has a long history of serving London and Surrey, offering an array of glazing and glass processing services. From the highly affordable to the truly creative, we have an extensive portfolio; from double glazed windows, doors and conservatories to elegant architectural structures, statement-making balustrades and design-led glass panelling. Our ability to call upon highly talented technicians in our own factory enables us to excel in the creative use of mirror and glass while achieving the highest of standards and adding value and beauty to any surrounding.

“We go to unusual lengths to ensure customer satisfaction as our many excellent customer references prove. You can call my direct number and will guarantee to deal with your enquiry personally.”

Trading History

We are a family run business that started in 1965. From a modest shop providing the local community with a glazing service we have expanded our range with the development of our factory that houses sophisticated machinery that is able to provide additional glass-based products and services suited to the modern demands of home owners and the creative and structural needs of architects.

Trade Bodies

Glass and Glazing Federation LogoWe are fully committed to our membership of and compliance with the standards of  the two main trade bodies of the glass industry. The Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) and its subsidiary FENSA. Members of the GGF include companies that manufacture and install energy efficient windows, in homes and commercial buildings, the performance glass used in every type of building from houses to high-rise tower blocks and the components that are used to manufacture every type of glazing.

GGF members produce and install safety, fire and emergency glazing, special films to protect against the sun’s rays or terrorist and vandal attacks and in fact, every type of glazing installation, no matter how specialised.

The GGF is recognised by government and plays a large part in the setting of new standards and regulations, such as The Building Regulations, the rules that govern and control the way our buildings are constructed in the UK.

Within the GGF are key subsidiaries, such as ‘FENSA’ which helps ensure that energy efficient windows, doors and conservatories are installed to the appropriate Building Regulations in order to comply with planning rules. Other subsidiaries include, the British Fenestration Ratings Council (BFRC) the company responsible for developing Window Energy Ratings, to allow anyone choosing new windows to choose the most efficient windows by their Energy Efficient Labels – familiar to anyone buying electrical appliances. The GGF exists to promote its members, industry best practice and helps set the highest technical standards in Glass.

The process from consultation to installation

We always like to start at the end – our first task is to understands your ideas and needs within your budget and time frame. We will work with you if you need some inspiration, or for you if you know exactly what you want. You will almost certainly be visited by the Managing Director in the first instance. Later our surveyor will take any necessary measurements, and generally review the project with a trained eye able to spot both opportunities and pitfalls. From that meeting we will propose solutions and support those with schematic drawings and estimated costs. A final site survey and discussion of the finer points of detail will produce a quotation and a schedule of works, along with insurance and guarantee schemes to protect you from us, should we fail to perform to our declared and industry standard. (see below). When it is time to commence the project we will be at pains to ensure we work around your needs (for example many people work from home these and need NOT to have singing and shouting workmen in their homes). All our fitters have been trained by us not only to have high technical skills across a wide range of disciplines but also to know not only what a vacuum cleaner is but how to use it! We will always take away anything we have replaced and always leave your house secure overnight if necessary. Post-installation a site visit will ensure that you are happy with the work.

Customer protection

When you buy windows, doors or other glazing products from us that require you to place a deposit you are immediately protected from any consequences should we fail to deliver as promised because we went out of business (not very likely!)

  • FENSA Building Regulations certificate dispatched to the homeowner for every registered installation which falls under FENSA’s remit as proof of compliance.
  • Your property will be certified as compliant to Building Regulations without the added cost and time of arranging assessment by Building Control.
